Well, I've seen cultures that believe that showing ones individuality is improper, so masks are used to disguise ones features out of respect for those around him.

But I cannot fault a man for wanting to keep his privacy and for wanting to be a mystery. Sometimes I find myself wishing I had chosen to do the same.
