That would depend on what makes the reason 'dumb', would it not? Cultural heritage and traditions are not things we should simply dismiss because they make it inconvenient for us. A legitimate purpose, even if misguided, should not be thrown out arbitrarily, but instead ought to pass through the proper channels.
