semi-here

[A better reponse than he was expecting, tbh. His eyes don't leave Robin for the whole exchange, a neutral that doesn't waver.

It makes sense, why Robin hates the act so much. Were he to have caught something like that with such eregious consequences, he would not have been proud of his own kind, just like he had not always been proud of the cycles they shoved themselves through, of peace and war, of well intentions never being enough to stave off the evil for long. Like the ebb and flow of the ocean, kind in moments and horrifying in others.

But no thing, no man, no god above, could control the ocean. Not its rocking, nor its depth, nor its capabilities, nor its possibilities. Not the way it could help, nor the way it could swell and rage and destroy. A complicated balance.

It's regretable, to see the consequences. And if Robin's regrets stemmed from what he'd chosen to do on receiving this information, he doesn't wish to pluck up the blame for remnants of humanity needing to answer for their actions.

But empathy does not always beget mercy. And his look from across the room, though not issuing a challenge, not betraying spite, still stays firm in the viewpoint Robin knows he also holds.

He would still stand with them, if it came down to it. If it came to war, if it came to blows in retaliation and rage. He is not their protector, but he would still yank the muzzle of the beast if it snapped too hard.]
