[In truth, Phil is only half-listening at first, his attention occupied by the thoughts of having to say goodbye to Day that have sprung unbidden to his mind. He hears Day say how he was brought here at a bad time, how there are things he needs to do back at home, a mention of saying goodbye (to him, surely), all things that Phil should have realized were inevitabilities, and a part of him is upset at himself for denying how this was bound to end.
