I don't know that "elegant" is the word I would use.
[It's no different from ambition gaining you the acknowledgement of the gods, as far as he can tell. Visions and magic aren't wildly different experiences from where he can stand, so perhaps that's why it's been so easy for him to adjust to this world.]
But it makes sense, if you think about it as the spirits being in want of a leader. Who would be happy to follow someone who doesn't believe in anything or have the strength to see things through?
