Hmm, not precisely. Let me put it another way. When I conjure fire, I picture it erupting from my hand and outwards.

[She holds her left hand palm up, though without actually performing the spell. No need to demonstrate that thoroughly, right?]

Then, to strike the jar with fire, I would use an image of flame bursting out from my hand to blast it.

[Again, no actual spells, but she turns her palm towards the jar.]

There is the flaw in my logic. I envisioned a bolt of unshaped magic firing into the jar. The sugar followed that bolt. The proper way to fix it is to envision the magic energy in the jar, without any crossing between me and it. Or rather, instead of projecting the magic energy from my hand to the jar, the magic energy starts in the jar already.
