From what we can tell, this rock was sitting in the earth for at least some time—longer than a week—without any incident. Then it was accidentally disturbed and started spewing out that magic that messed everything else up, 'fore we purified. So, yeah, I think we shouldn't rule out the possibility that it can absorb magical energy either.
