The blood splits apart, the circle gone, coagulating together into droplets as it all sinks into the cobblestone. And then there's nothing.
Then there's a cry - from the stag where it is; agitation, stamping, and a violent struggle to get free, though it is unclear from what, until: vague in the dark but clearer in the moonlight and lamplights as it struggles, there is the clearer sign of how the stag whips and struggles against hundreds of tiny, thorned vines - near like threads, if wider - which dig into its flesh, the damage slight but aggravated the more it slips and stumbles and struggles.
