Would it only be two heights then, aerial and grounded? Or do you propose to add in an entire system of elevation where in theory a piece could climb to the high ground and thus confer itself an advantage when under attack from an opposing piece of the same class?

If we intend to go through with this, give me some of the wood you've been using to carve these pieces. After all, you've already introduced quite a few potential dimensions to this game. I, at least, can handle whittling the pegasi and wyverns.
