LIGHT UP THE FIREWORKS

Lazuli seems… agitated, this morning. Not so much in the sense that he’s irritable (because that's just normal, really), but it seems as if something has gotten under his skin. He keeps looking up, out the windows or out over the horizon, and it seems eventually he grows tired of whatever it is bothering him. He accosts whoever it is that seems to have little to do this day, gathering a group of competent (...?) wizards.

“I need you to come with me,” he says, arms crossed and a furrow between his brows. “Something’s not right, even more than things usually aren't right.”

Vague, but do you really have the option to ignore him? You can certainly try, but it won’t get you anywhere. You’re being dragged onto this impromptu excursion whether you want to go or not. Lazuli drags the group to the elevator, using a mana stone to transport everyone to the Northern tower. On the other side is the same snowy wasteland that’s always there, and nothing seems amiss no matter how hard you strain your senses. Lazuli seems to get even more tense, though, summoning and mounting his broom.

“Follow me. We can talk while we fly, but we don’t have long.”

Well, it's certainly not the worst awakening party I've had.

[But it's not the worst, either.]

I seem to be all in one piece, thank you. I can't say I know what's going on, though.

I can only imagine, given that there are numerous possibilities out there, after all. It seems we witnessed quite a bit, on our way here...

[ He has to wonder idly if those memories they witnessed had something to do with him. One thing at a time, however. ]

As for what's going on, I can do my best to summarize the circumstances of our arrival, first. And then we can eventually speak about whatever has been possibly going on your end?

[It still pales in comparison the tails of a foxian, but it's still fluffy! And constantly in motion, swaying as he stands.]

From what I remember, my day was going rather normally, and then I heard a voice...

[He thinks for a long moment.]

It wasn't a Calling, though. It didn't seem like the summoning magicks I'm familiar with, but something else entirely. An interesting phenomena, to be sure.

[ There's definitely something familiar (ish) about the fluffiness of that tail; it has been so long since he has seen the Xianzhou Alliance that seeing it sway has him a little distracted. ]

Calling?

[ Jing Yuan wonders...Lazuli went ahead to speak with the spirits. It had something to do with that, didn't it? He also wonders, what happened to him? But, back on the subject: ]

...We had an ally of ours guide us all along. He told us that there was something amiss with the spirits in The Forest of Dreams. He also went ahead to appeal to them.

As for other details, as we went further in, everything was blanched with white, and then we happened upon a settlement, before having to complete a crystal puzzle in order to reach here, where you are.

To that end, I ask, what did this voice sound like? An ask?

Calling is a form of summoning ritual where I hail from, where the mage in question calls forth the soul of a being across time and space.

[He knows a thing or two about summoning rituals! How convenient.

At how Jing Yuan describes things, a frown crosses his face for a moment before it eases into a more neutral expression.]

It sounded like more of a command. "Now it's up to you," as if the torch was being passed to me.

... I see.

[ It is very convenient!

There's a further pause in consideration, as he thinks about the words given to them all once again, once more. ]

It sounds like a very high-advanced technique. Are there any consequences of one going so far to perform such a ritual by their lonesome?

[ Because across time and space? That does not sound like small peanuts, and then with the handing of the torch...hm. ]

Yes, it can drain the caster quite a bit...

[His tail lashes back and forth, his face pensive.]

But this feels different, so I'm not sure who or what drew me here, nor where the person who summoned me went. Frankly, I have the feeling that... they did not summon me themselves, but instead wanted to pass on a warning as they knew it was an inevitability.

[ Watching the tail go back and forth...

Oh. Right. ]

A mystery in its entirety for now, then.

Well, we have more than enough time to figure out the details, don't we? Especially as performing a more thorough investigation into matters rather than simply speculation will serve us well.

[ And with that said, since this guy is going to be likely tagging along, Jing Yuan offers a smile of sorts. ]

Making our way out of here sooner than later is also a good idea. Though, a round of introductions can't hurt either.

[He nods, slowly. This is a lot to take in, but after a moment he seems to come to some sort of realization, perking up.]

[ Jing Yuan wonders if he should present that book, so he begins to take it out. So, maybe the guy can recognize it on sight? He makes also makes a gesture towards the way they came back... ]

I haven't heard of such a place at all, as expected. I suppose that makes it less likely you're related to a Foxian...

[Oh! He does seem to brighten up even more at the sight of the book, reaching out to take it from Jing Yuan.]

A Foxion? I'm afraid I've not heard of such species... I'm a Miqo'te—though some are more familiar with the term "Mystel" for them?

[ Jing Yuan will let him take the book, because look. It'd be rude to keep it away. ]

It was in the settlement, on one of the benches. I don't suppose you also happen to be a writer of history books, do you?

[ A light jest, but onto the other subject...he unsurprisingly recognizes neither one of the other terms. ]

A Foxian is a species from the Xianzhou Alliance; they have ears and a tail, quite like yours. But, there is a difference in fluffiness. [ Is this important...yes, yes, it is. ] ...I've heard of neither two you've mentioned, though. However, I can't say I'm all that surprised.
