[ Kurapika and Ahito follow the golden, ethereal thread that extends from the manor, and they find themselves heading towards the City of Glory. The mountains outside of the city, to be more precise.
Sitting among the sparse trees dotting the mountainside is what looks like a bright golden jewel, shining brightly under the full moon. Around it is the same faint silhouette of the previous sage in a golden glow. Its aura is unmistakable—this is a piece of the previous sage's soul. From the faint image of his raised fist are another four threads, faint and thin, extending further in different directions. The aura from these threads are familiar, too—they feel like the orbs that greeted you at the end of your mission. However, they're not as important as the matter at hand.
Wraiths swarm the area surrounding the golden fragment of the sage's soul. They seem keen on getting closer to the fragment, but they can't. Two witches and two wizards, all native Central wizards, stand surrounding the fragment, keeping the wraiths at bay.
While the wraiths are greedy and aggressive and will attack Kurapika and Ahito on sight, the native wizards and witches are relieved to see them. They've sensed the significance of the fragment and have been keeping it safe by keeping the wraiths at bay. Kurapika and Ahito are welcome to join them to fight them off, or make off with the fragment while their new allies protect them.
Return to the old sage's room to hand in the fragment when you're done. ]
[As much as Ahito would love to personally strangle that stupid fucking Western dumbass, duty calls and he's not about to let his partner take on a task alone.
Especially when said partner is injured. So, with that in mind, he channels his usual healing magic into Kurapika even as they follow the golden thread, that usual sensation of warm, gentle water washing away any impurities and soothing the pain even as the rest of the magic sets itself to knitting together any wounds, encouraging the body to recover now instead of later. And, thanks to all the mana stones he's consumed, the power behind it is strong - stronger than it's ever been, to a perhaps surprising amount.]
-That work for now?
[Hopefully it does, the City of Glory is coming into view, and quick.]
[Thank you chimera for your brave sacrifice. Not that he lingers on the thought for long, there are other matters to attend to, and he obligingly stops when Kurapika reaches out to direct him so.]
...More ghosts. [Not super thrilled about that. However:]
Looks like we aren't the only ones interested in helping, though.
[It's one of the witches who notices them first, the tension in her expression melting into relief - though it's soon tempered as the wraiths take notice, too, and decide to switch target to the Sage's wizards instead (8). While Ahito's able to dodge, the sudden attack clearly caught him off guard, because the icy blast he summons is aimed a bit too late to hit (9).]
[ Ah, so they're feisty wraiths. Well, he supposes they'll need to fight them off.
Kurapika lashes out one of his chains towards a wraith, the hit connecting and causing it to dissipate into a puff of air (13). As he's distracted, another wraith aims its claws at him, attempting to swipe, but failing when Kurapika swerves out of the way on his broom (2). ]
...They're aggressive. We may have to fight them back if we want to get the stone.
[ Though his gaze floats down to the wizards trying to protect it. ]
I'm sure they'll be willing to assist us with it too.
[The thought is confirmed as the other wizards and witch take notice, calling out to them - the jewel is important, isn't it? They'll help defend it, along with the Sage's wizards!]
...Man, Wizards in this country sure are different. [Not even a little attempted homicide? As a treat? Wild.
[That said, the wraiths aren't giving up their attack, for all it... doesn't do much (1). Ahito, having gotten his wits about him, actually manages to fire off a miniature blizzard that disperses another (16).]
I'm glad for it. I'd rather not deal with wizards looking for a fight.
[ Like those Northern wizards...
Kurapika hits another wraith with the ball-end of his chain and it completely disperses into the air like the others (18). Like clockwork, another wraith swipes at Kurapika as he's finishing up his attack, but he dodges it easily (8). ]
Here I was, thinking we might need to use our spell.
[That first witch who noticed them calls out: "You two get the jewel, we'll cover for you!" And, to make her point clear, blasts a wraith point blank with a hard-hitting spell (18). As one of the wraiths makes to attack her and misses (10), her companion, a wizard, turns his own spell upon it to disperse it in seconds (16).
Ahito nods, glancing Kurapika's way - he's going to go for it. He'll summon his broom and sit side-saddle to race for the jewel, and while a wraith attacks and misses along the way (9), so does he when he tries to nail it on the move (6).]
[ Kurapika nods too, following along on his broom behind Ahito so he can protect him while he goes for it. He trusts Ahito to manage to get it himself, so Kurapika eventually stops after a certain point, watching and waiting for a wraith to make their way towards him.
And one does, the one that Ahito misses. Kurapika makes up for it, managing to destroy it with a blast of his own (11). Unfortunately, that means an errant wraith catches him with its sharp nails while he's busy with that spell (11). ]
[He notices, but clicks his tongue in annoyance - he's got to grab the jewel, Kurapika wasn't hit too hard and that much can be healed up later. So, focus on the jewel he does, speeding over and snatching it up before making a surprisingly hairpin turn.
Luckily, they aren't the only ones fighting this fight, and the witch has some real fighting chops because she manages to blast the wraith off Kurapika while Ahito's occupied with the jewel (15). A Wizard attempts to help with an incoming wraith too, only for the spell to miss (4). "Look out-!"]
I got it!
[And indeed he does, calling upon a cold wind to shred it to pieces (17).
Another wraith follows closely behind him, but misses (5).]
[ Kurapika manages to snipe the one that swiped at him with ease (19).
But unfortunately, that means he misses one that's gunning right for Ahito, and he misses it completely with his chain (2). Hopefully Ahito can manage when that wraith lunges right at him, aiming for the gem in his hand (12). ]
[Fortunately, the wraith isn't able to collect the jewel on accounts of that witch being on point as usual, blasting it before it can reach the precious fragment (15). "Hurry and get it, before it's too late!"
One of the wizards tries to keep another wraith back, but the spell misses yet again (7).]
[He'll attempt to clear the way for them to head back, but misses (10). The witch however sees and understands what he's aiming for, and takes her shot - and is far more successful at actually hitting it (16). The wizard, bless his heart, tries and fails again (1), leaving the wraith still alive enough to attack Kurapika (13).]
[Gritting his teeth and trying to take down the wraith - but missing! Again (9)!! Fortunately, the witch manages to blast it (14) as the wizard stumbles to follow, missing... as usual... (3).
At this point all of them are broom bound, and one of the wraiths trailing behind can't quite keep up to even attempt to do any damage (8).]
[ He'll go heal up back at the manor... or whatever's left of it, if Ahito doesn't get to him first on the way back.
The wraith that managed to claw at him thankfully misses this time (1), missing so badly that Kurapika is able to swing around and cause it to disperse into a flurry of smoke just through a punch. ]
I'm beginning to think these wizards will be fine too.
[Which is why he will in fact fly next to Kurapika, half as a guard and half so he can more easily apply healing. It's still got that soothing sensation, but it's not quite as powerful as it was previous, given he needs to split his attention at the moment.
And it turns out it's right to trust in the other central witches and wizards because that witch, the real MVP, blasts one of the incoming wraiths (16) while that poor stumbling wizard finally gets his shit together and manages to AOE a couple entirely on his own (20).]
[ That healing spell is a relief, completely healing up the injuries he sustained from the wraith. Man, he's glad Ahito's been munching on all those rocks.
He watches as the wizards deal with the wraiths, completely wiping out several of them in one go. ]
...They're almost completely gone.
[ Except for one straggler that tries to swipe at Ahito, only to miss (2). Thankfully, Kurapika's able to zap it with a quick lightning spell, turning it back into the nothingness it came from (14). ]
[The group of central wizards and witches give a cheer, their own brooms slowing as Ahito and Kurapika continue along the thread's path back to the manor. This path wasn't made for them, though they're glad to see Ahito and Kurapika off along it.]
Mission accomplished? ...That was way easier thanks to those wizards.
[Which is... honestly kind of weird coming from him, but he's not going to linger on it long.]
I'm willing to bet the Northern fragment's going to be in danger from other witches and wizards. A chimera was enough to get some witches to come along hunting for mana stones, so a jewel like that's going to attract them like flies to honey.
