[Kurapika always manages to take him by surprise. So few people can, but this man does so with all the effortlessness of a drawn breath, of one foot put before the other. Akira's fingers twitch in Kurapika's hand and his skin warms beneath the press of his lips, his own twisting and pursing and fighting to form words.]

No fair. I'm supposed to be the suave one here.

[ He lifts his head, a soft smile on his lips as he takes in the look on Akira's face. Even in the midst of the chaos, debris of the manor walls hanging by their feet and dust floating through the air, his gaze is focused only on the one in front of him. ]

You're suave?

[ Look, a little bit of humor helps when his ribs hurt with every breath he takes.

With a little tug to Akira's hand, Kurapika pulls him close enough to wrap him in an embrace, warm and plenty secure despite his injuries. ]

I don't take promises lightly. You know I'll keep my word.

[His arms wrap loosely around Kurapika, palms pressed flat to his back while his magic pours into him, soothes his aching wounds. No more breakin those ribs, dummy. Only Akira's allowed to beat you up (consensually).]

I know you will. You know I will too. That's why we've both got to stay alive so we can honor our promises to each other.

[ Never stop, actually. It’s become comforting in a familiar way, so much so that it makes him want to linger.

Kurapika turns his head from where it was buried against Akira’s shoulder to press his lips to his cheek. ]

You’re right. So, do your best to stay safe and I’ll do the same.

[ He steps out of the hug, giving Akira a small smile. ]

Now go help your partner. I’ve got to find mine.

[ With a little wave, Kurapika sets off to go do just that. ]

[He's reluctant to part from Kurapika's side — he always is — but he does so with a smile and a kiss. Bruno's holding up just fine, Akira is certain, but he doesn't plan on letting the man fly solo for long. He won't leave his partner in a lurch.]

[With a wave, Akira turns on his heel and runs.]
