the beach episode (dated before the east mission)

There's a small slice of sandy beach between mountains and wasteland, where the South meets Central, only an inlet of ocean between them, and that is where Bruno has decided to set up camp.

Literally.

He only had a simple tent and supplies for two initially. Tatara had asked if he could join him on his little trip out and how could he say no? Unfortunately for him, Tatara may have decided to invite everyone else, too, so, welcome, everyone, to the beach episode and a chance to relax after a potentially rough week in the City of Rain.

The sand is warm and fine, the water isn't too chilly, and scrubby little palm trees and plant life dot the dunes. Sea birds are the most active wildlife out here, not counting whatever fish can be found dwelling in the depths of the inlet between South and Central or further out into the ocean. It's comfortable enough... unless you hate sand, that is! You don't hate sand, right?

Since Tatara's arrival, more than Bruno's humble setup can be found.

- There's food fit for a picnic and enough bottles of wine for the evening.

- In the evening, a (non-deadly) bonfire will be built and there'll be pillows to sit on for those who don't want to sit directly on the sand.

- A few colorful rough wool blankets laid out under umbrellas meant to provide shade.

- There's still only one sad-looking tent... However! Bruno's gone ahead and enchanted it so that, when one pushes the cloth flap aside and enters, they'll find a much more comfortable setup inside.

And, of course, anything the other wizards have decided to bring! Bruno wasn't expecting a party but now that it's here, he sure can't tell them not to have fun however they want.

Oh, hey, Kiryu.

[ Bruno glances up briefly from the circling his noodling around with, drawing in the sand, and then he turns back to consider the tent at the center. ]

I... dunno? How do you think that? This is trying to make something, um, new... and a little abstract, I guess? Repairs are just telling the broken thing to go back to a previous state.

[Hmmmm...how to picture it...]

Imagine in your head how the inside of the tent looks like...and then pretend you reached with a hand and pulled from it like you're making it bigger with your own hands.

[Were he more knowledgeable about computers he'd compare it to grabbing the corner of an image and pulling from it to make it larger, but no, he's not great at computers. The metaphor never comes to mind]

[ Which is a good thing, seeing how Bruno has never seen a computer before in his life. ]

...making it bigger with my own hands... huh, okay. Let's try that.

[ He furrows his brow and stares hard at the tent a moment before letting his eyes shut. Raising his hands, he tries to imagine grabbing the tent and doing just that: pulling it to make it bigger. He'll mimic the gestures while doing so, murmuring his incantation.

The tent shakes... a little. ]

[Kiryu sees the tent shake. He doesn't say anything to avoid interrupting Bruno's concentration, but he does put a hand on Bruno's shoulder, squeezing a little to give silent encouragement]

[ He needs it to be big enough to fit everyone. Big enough to fit everyone. Big enough to—

That little shake the tent gave? It gives another... and then falls over. Oh. Bruno opens his eyes again, hands still held up in the air, and gives the collapsed tent a blank look for a second or two. ]

Er. Was it supposed to do that?

...probably not.

[Kiryu takes the edge of the tent, pulling from it like he's trying to check if despite everything it became bigger]

Here, let me help set it back up.

Of course not...

[ Bruno does his best not to let it get him down. It's just a new kind of spell! He doesn't have to get it right the first time! So while Kiryu checks inside it as he takes one edge, Bruno doesn't check but does take the other end to help get it back up.

However, when Kiryu does take a peek inside, he'll notice that the partly collapsed tent seems to be... vaster inside? Deeper? But it's also very dark in there. It's hard to tell for sure. ]

[Oh, this is good news! Kiryu nods to himself, smiling a little, unseen]

Hey, Bruno. It worked out after all. Look from over here.

[Believe in what your own eyes will see! Look!]

Did it?

[ Bruno sounds less sure about that. No surprise there, though. He steps closer and leans down to take a look, squinting into the darkness. ]

Huh. Are you sure? I mean, sure, it looks... like it could be? Uh, here, let's get it up.

[ He'll move back to his side and grip the tent, hauling it up and pushing the supports back into place. ]

[Kiryu certainly helps set the tent up, raising it! Between the two of them it doesn't take as long!]

Give it a look now and see if I was seeing things.

[It's not impossible, really...you never know what nonsense can happen when it comes to magic!]

[ Bruno does just that, shuffling back around and pulling the flap back to poke his head into the tent. There's a pause. One second, two, five, six, and then he pulls his head back out, then looks in again, and out, and in, and when he comes out the last time, he turns to look at Kiryu with surprise written plainly on his face. ]

It... I think you're right?! I think it did work!

[Kiryu gives one of his slight smiles]

Told you. Not bad, Bruno.

[That look of surprise is pretty amusing]

[ After giving the tent a quick little shake to make sure it'll remain stable, Bruno pushes the flap back fully and steps all the way into the tent. It's dark still but with an utterance of an incantation, he summons a floating light to the palm of his hand.

In there, the tiny run-down tent on the outside becomes a big, extravagant tent on the inside. There's enough space for everyone and then some! ]

...wow... uh, now we just, um. Stuff?

We could try to teleport stuff from the manor all the way here. You already worked hard -- creating things from zero may be too tiring.

[You have to enjoy yourself today too, Bruno! That includes not spending the day collapsed in the tent because you tired yourself out with magic making stuff for the tent]

Yeah, no, you don't. Magic doesn't really create items, I've found. Y'know, other than my focus and broom, anyway. I've... everything I've tried summoning to me kind of... belonged to someone else.

[ He's stolen so much random crap at this point and he panics every time. ]

[Kiryu blinks, and just...mumbles...]

...guess that explains why my bedsheets were used for that bread picnic the other day...

[No, Kiryu, that one was because Cid used those on purpose, it wasn't an accident like that, hah]

Mm, yeah, probably.

[ Cid, no... ]

But if we work on getting stuff just from the manor, it might be less, uh, like robbery?

Better that than accidentally bringing stuff from someone's home.

[There are a whole lot of places furniture and other stuff could be obtained! Kiryu gets his focus -- now on a plaque, it seems! -- and aims with it away, muttering that incantation Kiryu still isn't fond of.

There! On the sand plops a coffee table. It's...it's the one from Kiryu's room]

That wasn't what I was going for.

[Probably unsurprising the stuff from his own room is fresher in Kiryu's mind than the communal stuff from the rest of the manor. Kiryu didn't mean to bring his property here]

[ There's a quiet laugh from Bruno. Ha. Well, at least he isn't the only one who goofs up sometimes. ]

It'll do, though. Just, y'know, be prepared to summon it back again. Uh, maybe try for a rug from the manor instead? We're gonna need to cover up the sand.

[Summoning the rug was much easier, because Kiryu doesn't have one in his room! Therefore the one he brings is from the manor's communal areas. Success!]

That's better. It probably won't be too hard to wash it of sand later.

[And if it's hard, hey, magic is for making things convenient, it'll be fiiiine!]

Oh, yeah, 'cause you don't even need to wash it until someone makes a huge mess on it. You can just beat the sand out later.

[ But with the big rug there, he'll work on spreading it out a bit better to fill up the space. ]

We're also going to need stuff for people to sleep on, so, pillows? Blankets?
