the beach episode (dated before the east mission)

There's a small slice of sandy beach between mountains and wasteland, where the South meets Central, only an inlet of ocean between them, and that is where Bruno has decided to set up camp.

Literally.

He only had a simple tent and supplies for two initially. Tatara had asked if he could join him on his little trip out and how could he say no? Unfortunately for him, Tatara may have decided to invite everyone else, too, so, welcome, everyone, to the beach episode and a chance to relax after a potentially rough week in the City of Rain.

The sand is warm and fine, the water isn't too chilly, and scrubby little palm trees and plant life dot the dunes. Sea birds are the most active wildlife out here, not counting whatever fish can be found dwelling in the depths of the inlet between South and Central or further out into the ocean. It's comfortable enough... unless you hate sand, that is! You don't hate sand, right?

Since Tatara's arrival, more than Bruno's humble setup can be found.
- There's food fit for a picnic and enough bottles of wine for the evening.

- In the evening, a (non-deadly) bonfire will be built and there'll be pillows to sit on for those who don't want to sit directly on the sand.

- A few colorful rough wool blankets laid out under umbrellas meant to provide shade.

- There's still only one sad-looking tent... However! Bruno's gone ahead and enchanted it so that, when one pushes the cloth flap aside and enters, they'll find a much more comfortable setup inside.

And, of course, anything the other wizards have decided to bring! Bruno wasn't expecting a party but now that it's here, he sure can't tell them not to have fun however they want.

Well, I did hear that sparklers were a way to set the mood at a beach celebration. [Now that Urianger is here however, he doesn't need it to keep him busy. He shakes the sparkler to extinguish it, and tucks it into his pocket, where more sparklers await their time to shine.

Not the best safety measures when it comes to something that's technically an explosive, but still.]

Now, where would you like to watch the sunset from?

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-22 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thou heardst correctly. 'Tis a common practice in Eorzea as well.

[It's a good thing Urianger doesn't know about the other sparklers because he would have some concerns about that storage choice. Ithaqua please.

As for the main event, he turns his gaze away from Ithaqua for a moment to have a look around them. Locating a suitable spot, he motions to a decently-sized dune.]

Yonder dune should offer elevation for a better view of the sun meeting the sea, as well as a place to sit away from the waves.

[He holds up the blanket that he brought along with him.]

Ah, so you came prepared. [He was thinking far ahead, which humbles Ithaqua a little. He didn't think that far, himself. Perhaps he should have.]

Let's hurry then, before someone else decides that they, too, want to be there.

[He frankly may just bite if there's an interloper on their moment. Ithaqua has gotten few peaceful moments on this trip, and certainly less with friends, he will not allow anyone to bother him while he's with Urianger.

Now, Urianger may note that Ithaqua, in his mostly-normal state, does take long strides and pulls ahead of Urianger quite quickly.]

'Twould be more accurate to say that my preparations changed after we made our accord.

[He was just going to wander around during the sunset otherwise. But now that he's going to be with Ithaqua, he figured it would be nice to sit and continue their previous conversation while they await the sunset.

With that, they're off to the dune! And boy is Ithaqua really off. There he goes... It's not often that Urianger gets outpaced so easily with his absurdly long legs, but at least he can insure that Ithaqua will have their spot claimed by the time he gets up there.

He arrives not far behind and begins to unfold the blanket to spread over the sand.]

Thou seemest in much better health. I take it the cooler temperatures have played a role?
leewards: (008)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-22 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You could say that, heheh. [He will help Urianger with that, taking the trailing ends of the blanket to stretch it to its full size. Once that's done, he makes himself comfortable on the blanket and pats the spot right next to him as an invitation.]

I've also recuperated enough, time has passed enough for my strength to return, accompanied by a good meal.

[Who knew that eating would help? Well, he did, but with the heat, his body rejected the very notion of eating.]
divineth: (🌒 7)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-22 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ithaqua's help is much appreciated, and Urianger is quick to join him on the blanket once it's set up. Is Ithaqua perching like a cat again...]

Good. I am glad to hear thou hast rested and replenished thy strength.

[Not that Ithaqua needs to be hovered over anything...but Urianger cares, okay!!

He turns his gaze toward the sea, where the sun has already begun to hang low on the horizon.]

The boundary betwixt day and night groweth ever thinner. Soon, the sun shall relinquish its hold over the sky, but not without scattering its light into a beautiful painting upon its departure.
leewards: (009)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[For once, Ithaqua is sitting like a normal person... just because there's nothing to curl around, and because he would like to have the cool air on his body. It's why he's still wearing shorts and lacking in sleeves, even if he'd gone and changed clothes in the time they went their own ways.

Ithaqua tilts his head to look at Urianger, listening to what's practically verbal art.]

Was your work before all this poetry?
divineth: (🌒 15)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Urianger's lips quirk into a smile, but he ultimately shakes his head.]

Merely an interest of mine. Before mine arrival to this star, I was a student of prophecy.

[And like, a key player in saving the world from certain doom. But he's retired from that now so he doesn't mention it.]
leewards: (006)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Prophecy? [He tilts his head. Divination? Fortune-telling? How does one go from archaic texts to attempting to see the future?]

That involves dressing up quite a bit of doom in such lovely words as to not alarm the people, does it not?

[He may or may not have strange little impressions of what prophecy entails.]

Which means you still are able to exercise your gift for the spoken word.
divineth: (🌒 84)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Well...strange or not, they're impressions that Urianger has heard many times before. He offers a gentle correction:]

My purpose lieth in the interpretation and prevention of aforementioned doom. While assuaging the fears of the public is important, 'tis my priority to prepare them for what is to come.

[This has had, uh...mixed results. It's fine.]

Be that as it may...I do reference my poetic knowledge whenever it doth benefit the situation.

[He turns to Ithaqua, his smile returning.]

Didst thou enjoy it?
leewards: (011)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[He wasn't completely wrong, then. Just interpreting what's been said... translating strange, archaic language into something others can understand in some manner.

Does he care? Enough, because it's Urianger's job. But he doesn't quite care about how it affects others.]

Indeed. Perhaps people should pay you for your art instead of interpreting their prophecies, heheh.
divineth: (🌒 60)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Urianger returns that laugh with a chuckle of his own.]

Hmmm. Mayhap, but I have little interest in monetizing it. 'Tis merely for mine enjoyment, and those whom I share it with.
leewards: (006)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Ithaqua tilts his head, blinking up at him, and thinking. Then he places a hand on Urianger's arm.]

Share it with only me from now on, hm? [He's just being silly. He knows no one would given in to such a silly, selfish-sounding demand to monopolize anyone's talents.

He's simply expressing how much he likes such flowery words.]
divineth: (🌒 65)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a request that catches him by surprise, with only a sound of disbelief escaping him for a moment until his mind catches up.]

Thou dost flatter me. [However...] I may compose verses for thine ears only, but pray understand I cannot restrict myself beyond that.
leewards: (011)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Heheheh! That request was not made seriously, thus you needn't take it so.

[Now he pats Urianger.]

Even I am not so foolish enough to request that of anyone... Though I shan't decline if you want to recite to me a verse you have composed only for me.
divineth: (🌒 14)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. [His shoulders sag as the tension leaves him. Now he just feels a bit silly.] Thou hadst me convinced for a moment.

[So convinced that he did not see it for the obvious flirtation that it was.]

Regardless, I intend to keep my word. When next we meet, I shall have a verse prepared for thee.
leewards: (010)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Heheh! [The conversation gets better and better-- he's gotten to tease Urianger, and even gotten a good deal out of it.] I shall hold you to that, if you truly do insist.

[Then he pats Urianger's arm again, this time more insistently... because there's a sight unfolding before them, the way the sky takes on more colours, fading from the orange just around the sun to a deeper red, to purples, pinks, blues, and then the deep, inky night.]
divineth: (🌒 29)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Listen..........

Actually nevermind, Urianger's attention is immediately drawn toward the sunset. A gentle sigh escapes him as he takes it all in. For just a precious moment, he's able to disconnect himself from the worries of the wizards' mission and feel at peace. Better yet, he's getting to share this little slice of peace with a comrade.

Huh. Could this be his mana area?]

'Tis magnificent. [And yet he turns his gaze away from it for a moment to see Ithaqua's own reaction.] Wouldst thou agree?
leewards: (011)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would. Many would say that's the beauty of nature, but words are often not enough to describe nature.

[Ithaqua has leaned back onto his hands, just so he can crane his neck and see the sky. He's smiling at the sight of the sun giving way to stars, genuinely smiling rather than the grins or sneers he often had when he had terrible intentions towards the person he was facing.

Then again, with a mask on much of the time, who would even know what his expressions are?

Urianger, now. He's the only person to see Ithaqua like this.]
divineth: (🌒 18)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Would that he knew just how fortunate he is to see two rare views this evening.]

Verily. So sayeth the phrase, "words don't do it justice." Try as I might to put this sight into words, the one who I describe it to would be far better off seeing it for themselves.

[His eyes drift back to the sunset to soak up that sight while it lasts.]

I thank thee for accompanying me.
leewards: (010)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ithaqua thinks Urianger came quite close to it with his words... but he agrees, in the end there's nothing anyone can do to compete with or capture the sheer spectacle of nature. They can come close, but not enough.]

I should be thanking you. After all, you invited me here. [Even if they both had the same idea. Urianger just asked first.

Then he lies down on the blanket, mussing up his hair.]

This sight and the company are worth staying for.
divineth: (🌒 53)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The gratitude is for accepting mine invitation.

[But it's not a competition. No matter how things played out, the result would be the same. They'd both be here, enjoying each other's company and a wonderful evening view on top of it.

The sun dips further beneath the horizon, intensifying the shades of red and purple as darkness takes its hold over the sky. Soon, another amazing view will reveal itself: a blanket of sparkling stars and yet to be known constellations.

Urianger smiles down at Ithaqua as this takes place.]

Hast thou located thy mana area yet, Ithaqua?
leewards: (008)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
As a matter of fact, I have. [He doesn't exactly want to recount the day, unpleasant as it is... and he wouldn't want to go back to that specific spot, either. Thankfully, there are a number of forests here, with more clearings than he can could to choose from.]

A forest clearing where I could have a view of the clear night sky. Thus, any forest could carry my mana area-- except, perhaps, the Eastern country.

[But he shall stop rambling about himself now, and focus on Urianger instead. After all, the question was asked for a reason.]

Why do you ask?
divineth: (🌒 63)

[personal profile] divineth 2024-05-23 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Urianger closes his eyes for a moment so he can envision it.]

That soundeth lovely. [Opening his eyes again, he turns his gaze to the ever-darkening sky.] On a distant planet, I once said to a friend that there is comfort to be found in the stars. Though these stars may not be our own, the gentle warmth of light doth persist.

[It's heartening that it seems to be the case here as well.

As for why he asked...]

I believe I have found mine as well, in this very moment.
leewards: (007)

[personal profile] leewards 2024-05-23 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? [Ithaqua sits up so he can look Urianger in the eye better and give him all of his attention.]

Yours, too, is an area where you can see the night sky?
