the beach episode (dated before the east mission)
There's a small slice of sandy beach between mountains and wasteland, where the South meets Central, only an inlet of ocean between them, and that is where Bruno has decided to set up camp.
Literally.
He only had a simple tent and supplies for two initially. Tatara had asked if he could join him on his little trip out and how could he say no? Unfortunately for him, Tatara may have decided to invite everyone else, too, so, welcome, everyone, to the beach episode and a chance to relax after a potentially rough week in the City of Rain.
The sand is warm and fine, the water isn't too chilly, and scrubby little palm trees and plant life dot the dunes. Sea birds are the most active wildlife out here, not counting whatever fish can be found dwelling in the depths of the inlet between South and Central or further out into the ocean. It's comfortable enough... unless you hate sand, that is! You don't hate sand, right?
Since Tatara's arrival, more than Bruno's humble setup can be found.
And, of course, anything the other wizards have decided to bring! Bruno wasn't expecting a party but now that it's here, he sure can't tell them not to have fun however they want.

- There's food fit for a picnic and enough bottles of wine for the evening.
- In the evening, a (non-deadly) bonfire will be built and there'll be pillows to sit on for those who don't want to sit directly on the sand.
- A few colorful rough wool blankets laid out under umbrellas meant to provide shade.
- There's still only one sad-looking tent... However! Bruno's gone ahead and enchanted it so that, when one pushes the cloth flap aside and enters, they'll find a much more comfortable setup inside.
And, of course, anything the other wizards have decided to bring! Bruno wasn't expecting a party but now that it's here, he sure can't tell them not to have fun however they want.

I can't believe this meme persists, help.Jing Yuan nods his head to acknowledge the greeting with a friendly smile, which turns thoughtful at the other man's words. ]
Ah, so you originally intended to have it as a quieter outing, hm?
[ A considering hum at this... ]
I do hope you have been able to enjoy yourself regardless. Though, you do not strike me as a 'party' kind of person.

memes never die]I invited Tatara because he really wanted to try camping and, well... [ Their sage is a social beast, apparently. ] Ah, but I'm not cross or anything like that. Just a. A little surprised.
[ And the whole internal screaming round of magicking up the tent to fit everyone. ]
A party kind of person, though... well... Parties don't usually want a weird prophet in the room, y'know?

Truly.]I see. Well, I'm glad it didn't end up as something truly irksome, and rather was just a matter of surprise than anything.
[ Maybe it worked out for the best, in a way. Minus the internal screaming about tents. ]
Though, I'm sure that some people wouldn't exactly be inclined to exclude a person from a party just because they were a prophet. And you don't exactly come across as strange.

[ Bruno gestures vaguely in the air. ]
Like, oh no, Bruno's here, is he going to tell us something terrible again? Is he going to ruin the party? So, uh, no, definitely, definitely not a party person.
no subject
Is that so?
That's the only topic that enters into people's minds when they see you back home? Rather close-minded of them, in retrospect.
But, I do understand why it would make you hardly inclined towards parties.

[ Bruno defending people who have hurt him continues. Someone get Akira to run in and throw him into the ocean already. ]

Even so, I don't believe it will make the future any brighter just because they decide to treat you unkindly. It isn't as if you asked for that.
I only wish they could simply treat you better, is all.
[ Jing Yuan puts it gently; but he still judges these people. A fortune teller isn't responsible for someone's misfortune. It's the same here, isn't it? ]
no subject
[ At least he doesn't feel as crazy anymore in thinking it isn't entirely fair. ]
I kinda learned to keep to myself most of the time pretty quick. It's been hard to unlearn that here, where it's all different and people actually want to... hang out? And there are cities and all these crazy things happening...
no subject
[ Jing Yuan states pointedly, just because of the simple fact that Bruno's norm is not really a happy one. ]
It may take awhile to get used to, but I do hope that is something you can grow more accustomed to.
That said, are you not used to cities?
no subject
[ If they go home. ]
And nah, not at all. I'm from a tiny village and there's a, uh, kind of a protection spell on it, I guess? No one can get in but you can't get out, either.
no subject
I would prefer to think of it as a nice change of pace, though I will understand if you ultimately can't quite consider it as wholly good for that exact reason.
[ Though, he likes to think that the experience will mean something. Asking for the status quo to change is a bit much, probably.
But he can hope it will change. Or Bruno will find greener pastures...or not, with the protection spell. ]
I assume it must have enough resources to thrive despite the fact no one can leave or enter. Though, I wonder what inspired that kind of spell in the first place. Threats from other places?
no subject
[ He can't quite claim it's all he knows, exactly. He's a seer. He's seen the rest of the world, here and there, usually out of context. ]
It... well. There was a lot of fighting going on in the area at the time, so, yeah, you could say it was threats from other places. My mom and all the older folks you'll find there, the army was going through and razing everyone's homes, and they were just trying to get away from them.
no subject
[ Jing Yuan imagines it could've easily become dire and ended up real bad. The place must be rich in variety of certain foods and the like for that to become a non-issue. ]
...I see, so it is more or less a haven from all of that.
Hopefully one day there will be no need for a protection spell. It does seem like a shame to be cut off from the rest of the world forever, after all.

[ Awkward cough. ]
no subject
...How did it all go, exactly? Well?
[ Maybe?? Hm. ]

What do you mean by fell apart?
Was it brought down by an attack?
no subject
[ But Bruno can only sign about that and kick at some sand, looking down rather than at Jing Yuan. ]
Look, can we change the subject? This isn't really, y'know, a thing I want to talk about.
no subject
I had not meant to make this so uncomfortable for you.
[ Jing Yuan's tone is, well. Remorseful for certain, and he decides to look back up at the stars. For what it's worth he does transition into another subject accordingly. ]
Incidentally, do you happen to have a constellation you favor?
no subject
A... constellation? Oh, uh. I don't really use the stars to tell the future but. There's one back home named after a Toucan? Tucana? I always thought that was funny, so that one if I have to pick.
no subject
Tucana, hm?
We do not have 'toucans' on the Xianzhou Alliance, so I would have to trust your judgment on the matter.

It's a pity I don't have an image of them. Birds, I find, are often interesting to witness as they are in their natural state.
[ He is thinking of his many finches now... ]

[ Bruno fumbles with a pocket to retrieve his focus — a brass pocket watch with an hourglass intricately engraved upon it — and holds it out. ]
Su futuro espera.
[ It helps that they're exactly somewhere that fits Bruno's mana area; a quiet place with sand and a clear, starry sky overhead. He did get the sand part right, hopefully, he'll figure out the night sky part next, but until then, it makes it extraordinarily simple to summon up a toucan made of green light. If one had to compare it to something, it could easily be a futuristic hologram.
It forms up from atop his palm, over the focus itself, and flutters its wings before settling to preen its feathers instead with its huge beak. ]
no subject
Except, well. Green. ]
Hmm, definitely not something I had seen before. I had figured that was the case, but now I am certain.
I am most used to seeing birds such as cranes or finches...though it would not hurt to have a bit more variety.
