As the sky turns dark, the full moon shines cold and eerie in the heavens.
Today's the day, if you remember what Tatara and G'raha told you. Should you venture by the old sage's room in the dusk, you'll see the threads shining bolder and brighter than they did a week ago, the colors soaring straight towards the countries they represent. They most certainly lead somewhere, the key to all of this. And at any minute now, Tatara should be calling another meeting to address putting the previous sage back together. Soon, in theory, you should be free of your obligation to this world, and soon, in theory, you should be able to go home.
But something else happens first.
Solomon, Ahito, Ithaqua, Robin, Phil, Mika, Cid, Khun, Jing Yuan, Comet, and Day are the first ones to notice something's wrong. There comes a low rumble in the distance, followed by another, and yet another—the rhythmic pounding of something large against the earth. It's faint, but distinct. Something approaches.
And then, there is a shift in the air. Robin, Ithaqua, Phil, Jing Yuan, Comet, and Day are the only ones to sense this. It happens once, twice. The air through the manor flows free—the barriers surrounding the manor have gone down.
The world goes silent.
Robin is the only one quick enough to react. Though he knows not what comes, he will not take chances. He stands from his spot in the dining hall and throws up a defensive barrier around himself, Bruno, and Urianger.
Whether you notice it or not, whether you heard the approaching rumble or not, the next thing everyone knows, the manor shudders. That is unmissable. The ground shakes and the manor creaks and groans—glass shatters, bricks crumble. Things big, burning, and moving very fast collide with the walls and tear them down, destroying the place you have called home for the past three months.
Malice, Cid, and Day feel the manor coming down and leap to action before the bricks hit the ground. Day rushes to protect Ginger, Malice leaps to keep Comet safe, and Cid turns to the nearest person to him—Ahito—and pulls him to safety.
The explosions are loud as the walls come down, fire catches, and thick smoke and dust from the debris fill the air. Some projectiles sail past the manor completely, but land amongst the other parts of the manor grounds—the training forest, the topiary garden, the main walkway—gouging out holes in the earth.
Outside the ruined walls stands a freakishly large magitechnical contraption—a humanoid vehicle, cobbled together from larger scrap from, possibly, even bigger magitechnical machines. Its bronze chassis glints coolly in the moonlight, and it stands at nearly half the height of the manor. Where its "head" might be looks like a small window. It's hard to see through it, but there is someone inside, and he makes sure his presence is known. ]
I can't take it anymore! [ His voice echoes tinny, amplified by another contraption in his pilot's chamber. Ahito will recognize his voice. ] Enough is enough!
[ As the dust from the initial attack settles, we will find that Kurapika, Akira, Kiryu, Solomon, Robin, Phil, Khun, and Tatara have all been injured in the blast. The severity is up to you, and is not dependent on the concrete number of your second roll.
Regardless, despite his injury, Tatara carries himself through the ruined halls and the smoke and he clambers over what rubble he can manage, and shouts for everyone: ]
We still go ahead with the plan! I need two people for each thread from the sage! Some people need to stay behind and help the injured, or fight—
[ He looks up past the ruined wall at the mech, and his brows knit in worry. ]
The jade pendant around his neck is still intact, but he's been pinned under brick and support beam alike, a nasty flash of red muddling the white of his hair and pooling against one arm, sitting limp against his body under the weight of debris. He's coughing against the smoke, dazed as he tries to grope for his wand.]
[ Oh, this is bad. This is so bad. Yamato fortunately managed to make it out relatively unscathed, but that's a lot of injured people.
Something, though, tells him intuitively that there's something he can do. Something more than just what he's been capable of doing now. Still, as a "leader" type, he's doing his best to stay calm (not by much) and think on the fly. He's gotta yell over all the chaos, hurriedly: ]
I'll go where I'm needed. Healing, fighting, the sage – doesn't matter to me!
[ Hey guess who's coming up from the rubble, still injured but walking? This guy! His own blood may be staining his clothes a bit, but he seems to be fine. ]
Likewise. I do prefer to fight one-on-one, but... if I'm needed for the battle, then I'll happily go there.
[ Ginger’s trying to check on everyone, but he naturally gravitates toward the Eastern wizards and Day first. ]
The threads seem like they’re getting stronger, so I’d like to check them out - but anything you need me to do and anywhere you need me to go? Just say the word.
[ That goes for everyone, he’ll easily adapt to the plan unless it’s Khun directing. ]
If... if anyone still needs healing, I can take a look.
[ Once he has Robin's arm fixed, he'll show up where everyone else is gathering. That sure is an angry robot(???) out there and someone needs to handle it, someone that probably is not Bruno, so, yeah. ]
[ Well, considering who Robin threw some shields around, then Bruno must at least be near him. His first thought would be to try and find him, to make sure he's okay! ]
[ according to avrae he's somewhat injured, but not critically (12), which is what I'm interpreting as 'he probably focused more on shielding the healers than himself'.
he's a little dazed, conscious among the rubble but eyes somewhat unfocused as he lets the barrier protecting the other two fall. he's lucid enough for his gaze to flicker to bruno as the southern wizard approaches, though one of his arms doesn't seem to hang quite right. ]
[ Over where Day went to defend Ginger, there's this small, uncannily debris-free radius around them, a semi-neat circle of things simply Not Falling On Them, Somehow. Certified Sidereal-style protection. ]
[ He’s unsettled in the same way an unexpected wake-up call can throw you off. He just needs a moment to shift his thinking to alert and ready; that’s always been something he’s a little slow at. ]
[ They come out relatively unscathed from the blast thanks to two things: -Sensing something wrong at the start of this... They constantly looking around for what it it was, but alas. -Malice shielding them.
[ tatara is rushing through the halls injured and khun is just rolodexing through his very Large lighthouse inventory at this point to find Something, after he takes the time to bubble them both in shields.
he's also injured but for once his low rolls in anything not romantic mean it's just a nasty gash along his shoulder which he doesn't even properly register right now, so it's daijoubu (real). ]
Tatara, hold still— [ he finally finds what he's looking for once tatara has issued his orders, and with no explanation this appears in his hand, potentially horrifying anyone nearby before he shatters it into the ground.
tatara will have some good ol'southern (Real healing) courtesy of Maya 🦀. ]
[Thanks to Ithaqua, Phil's been freed from the rubble, and he seems to be mostly all right for the time being aside from some bumps and scrapes. What's shaking him the most is 1) the realization that the manor's barriers are completely down, and 2) the sense of something being wrong, though he's not quite sure what that "something" is.
He may not be a healer, but he's looking around to see if there's anything immediate he can do with his magic.]
